Muun: Bitcoin wallet with multig. Lightning network

Hello. I will try to raise the level of bitcoin literacy a little, and at the same time learn myself. Today we will talk about a wallet for Bitcoin with multisig. It can be used for transactions on the main network and lightning network. Just yesterday I wrote a small post about lightning-network wallets. Let me remind you that I took centralized custodial wallets as an example. In them, centralized companies are responsible for the preservation of the "exchange coin" Bitcoin. They are the ones who store the private keys. In turn, the user receives maximum comfort, speed, and convenience. Those wallets are tied to the mailbox and if the user loses the phone, for example, as a result of a breakdown, then he buys a new one, installs the application, enters the account and continues to use his assets. Now let's talk about the Muun wallet.

The Muun wallet is a compromise between convenience and security. It is open source. The company itself says that the use of seed can lead to certain difficulties, and it seems difficult to argue with this. Instead, they offer multisig. That is, as far as the author understands, a transaction enters the network when it is signed by two private keys - one of the wallet owner and the other of Muun. One key is stored on the user's device, the other on the company's servers. To create a backup copy, the user is offered a set of characters, if I'm not mistaken, there are 12 of them, but this is not a seed and the wallet can only be restored through the Muun service. At first glance, this does not seem to be the best option for the user, but do not rush to draw conclusions. Muun offers another so-called "emergency kit" of private keys. It includes both keys, the one stored in the device and the one stored on the company's servers. This means that in case of the Muun service failure, the user will still have full control over the assets. By the way, the "emergency kit" can be stored online, for example, in the cloud, because it is encrypted. A person can immediately unpack the emergency kit and sign transactions independently, i.e., without multisig. This kit is offered in PDF format and includes a step-by-step user manual.

It should be understood that Muun offers two keys and the use of one of them does not give the right to dispose of Bitcoin. Using the "emergency kit" allows you to refuse multisig and own both keys yourself.

I'm not describing many things because it would take a lot of time. But the main block includes all the necessary information. Of course, before using and storing bitcoin, you need to conduct an audit and familiarize yourself with the information on the network. But the wallet is very interesting. It makes it easy to switch between the Lightning network and the main Bitcoin network, to make the necessary settings. It easily receives and sends 1 satoshi each, and this is, let me remind you, one Ukrainian copy as of today. The screenshot for this post is my Muun wallet. Muun: гаманець для біткоїна з мультіг. Lightning network

Привіт. Буду намагатися трішки підвищити рівень біткоїн-грамотності, а заодно й сам вчитися. Сьогодні мова піде про гаманець для Біткоїна з мультисіг. Його можна використовувати для здійснення транзакцій в основній мережі та lightning network. Буквально вчора написав невеличкий допис про lightning-network гаманці. Нагадаю, що для прикладу взяв централізовані кастодіальні гаманці. В них за збереження “розмінної монети” Біткоїна відповідають централізовані компанії. Саме вони зберігають приватні ключі. В свою чергу, користувач отримує максимальний комфорт, швидкість, зручність. Ті гаманці прив'язані до поштової скриньки і якщо користувач втрачає телефон, наприклад, в результаті поломки, то купує новий, встановлює додаток, заходить в обліковий запис і продовжує користуватися своїми активами. Тепер же поговоримо про гаманець Muun.
Гаманець Muun — це певною мірою компроміс між зручністю і безпекою. Він має відкритий вихідний код. Сама компанія говорить про те, що використання seed може привести до певних складнощів і з цим, здається, сперечатися важко. На заміну пропонується мультисіг. Тобто, наскільки розуміє автор, транзакція поступає в мережу тоді, коли її підписують два приватних ключі — один власника гаманця, другий компанії Muun. Один ключ зберігається на девайсі користувача, другий — на серверах компанії. Для створення резервної копії користувачу пропонується набір символів, якщо не помиляюсь, їх 12, але це не seed і відновити гаманець можна тільки через сервіс Muun. Це все на перший погляд здається не найкращим варіантом для користувача, але не поспішайте робити висновки. Компанія Muun пропонує ще один, так званий “аварійний комплект” приватних ключів. В нього входять обидва ключі, той, що зберігається в девайсі та той, який лежить на серверах компанії. Тобто, у випадку зникнення сервісу Muun, користувач в будь-якому випадку отримає повний контроль над активами. До речі, “аварійний комплект” можна зберігати в мережі, наприклад, в хмарному сховищі, адже він зашифрований. Людина може відразу розпакувати “аварійний комплект” і самостійно підписувати транзакції, тобто, без мультісіг. Цей комплект пропонується в форматі PDF і включає покрокову інструкцію користувача.

Потрібно розуміти, що Muun пропонує два ключі і використання одного з них не дає права розпоряджатися Біткоїном. Використання “аварійного комплекту” дозволяє відмовитися від мультисіг і самостійно володіти обома ключами.

Я багато речей не описую, оскільки це б зайняло багато часу. Але основний блок включає всю необхідну інформацію. Звичайно, перед користуванням і зберіганням біткоїна, потрібно провести аудит і ознайомитися з інформацією в мережі. Але гаманець дуже цікавий. В ньому легко перемикатися між Lightning network і основною мережею Біткоїн, виконувати необхідні налаштування. Він без проблем приймає та відправляє по 1 сатоші, а це, нагадаю, станом на сьогодні одна українська копія. Скриншот до цього поста — це мій гаманець Muun.
